DETAILS:

TimeLine was founded in 1997 as a tiny theater company, and spent years moving between rented facilities with built-in limitations. With the triumphant opening of its permanent $46 million Uptown home in 2026, it must now be considered one of Chicago's preeminent cultural institutions. This dynamic new facility fosters meaningful conversations for a diverse community of learners and creators--better serving TimeLine's mission to engage social and political issues and spark reflection and dialogue about the intersection of past, present and future. The new building includes a flexible 250-seat black box theatre, exhibit galleries, educational and rehearsal spaces, offices, a lounge, and a bar and café.

VISITOR EXPERIENCE:

Most of the facility will be open for exploration with representative in each space to share information. The rehearsal room and theatre may be limited or off access due to production activities during certain times. Optional guided tours, lasting 30-45 minutes will be offered at set times.
