DETAILS:
Originally constructed in 1917 as the Marshall Square Theatre, the building was designed in the Beaux Arts style and operated as a neighborhood movie palace during the silent film era. Today, many of its original architectural features remain, including ornate plaster detailing, decorative moldings, and a grand historic theater interior reflective of early 20th-century design. Since 1989, the Galindo family has owned and operated the venue, preserving its historic character while transforming it into a vibrant cultural and community gathering space. In 2024, the building was officially designated a Chicago Landmark in recognition of its architectural and cultural significance.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
Visitors will experience Apollo’s 2000 through a combination of self-guided exploration and optional guided tours led by members of the ownership team. Guests will have access to the main theater space, lobby, bar areas, stage viewing areas, and green room throughout the first floor. A unique highlight will be access to the building’s original historic projection room.
