DETAILS:
Smashed Plastic is a full service custom record pressing plant located within the former Hammond Organ factory, home of the famous B3 Organ. The only facility of its kind in Chicago when it opened in 2018, it caters largely to independent, local musicians, and offers bespoke vinyl design, pressing, and packaging. The well-preserved building belongs to an old manufacturing district that has been adapting to modern uses and industries in recent years.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
The pressing room, listening room, and packaging room will be open and available to tour. One or two presses will be running so that participants can get a full demonstration of how records are produced, quality-controlled, and assembled. Owners will be on-site to answer questions about the facility and the building history.
