Irish American Heritage Center

The Irish American Heritage Center is one of the premier cultural institutions in the United States dedicated to preserving and celebrating Irish culture while serving as a welcoming gathering place for the broader Chicago community. Located on Chicago’s Northwest Side in a beautifully restored 1927 former Chicago Public School building spanning an entire city block, the Center blends historic architecture with handcrafted Celtic artistry, cultural preservation, and community connection. Originally transformed by volunteers from Chicago’s Irish community in the 1980s, the building now houses a 658-seat theatre, museum, library, art gallery, classrooms, dance studios, archives, and the Fifth Province Pub — a traditional Irish pub built using reclaimed materials from the original school building. Today, the Irish American Heritage Center welcomes people of all backgrounds through hundreds of annual programs and events, including concerts, festivals, educational workshops, language classes, visual arts exhibitions, traditional music sessions, nonprofit partnerships, and community gatherings.
