DETAILS:
Audaciously cantilevered out over a new stretch of Riverwalk, 150 North Riverside commands attention as few recent buildings have. The glassy office tower’s 54 floors, engineered to stand tall above busy rail lines, look down all three branches of the Chicago River. The lobby of 150 North Riverside, the only interior space open during Open House Chicago, contains a unique public media art installation called 150 Media Stream. Divided into 89 individual LED panels which display artwork commissioned specifically for the site, 150 Media Stream stretches over 150 feet long and reaches 22 feet high, the largest structure of its kind in the city. Throughout Open House Chicago weekend, 150 Media Stream will feature "SHIKAAKWA: Allium Otherworld," a new video work by artist Olalekan Jeyifous, who won the Silver Lion for his installation in the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. The artwork unfolds as a continuous architectural cross-section through a Louis Sullivan–inspired office tower, following an elevator descent through ornate corporate interiors to the building’s mechanical systems, then geological strata, and finally emerging into a mythical landscape far below. The project is made in partnership with MAS Context.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
150 N Riverside will open the main lobby to view the 150-foot-long Media Stream. This is a self-guided experience.
