DETAILS:
Founded in 2014, the Heritage Museum of Asian Art presents art from across Asia, spanning many cultures and time periods. Its collection includes archaic and modern jades, Neolithic pottery, imperial porcelains, Chinese snuff bottles, scholar’s objects, textiles, bronzes, and classical Chinese furniture. Since relocating from Chinatown to Bridgeport in 2022, the museum has made its home in a former industrial building adapted into galleries, educational spaces, and community gathering areas.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
Visit two newly opened exhibitions during Open House Chicago: Cutting East to West, presented with the Guild of American Papercutters and featuring papercut artworks by artists from across the United States and around the world; and Becoming Words, presented with the Seldon Institute and featuring calligraphy by Chicago-based Japanese American master Hekiun Oda and Paris-based Iranian master Dr. Bahman Panahi. Visitors may also enjoy self-guided exploration of the museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions, meet participating artists, view live demonstrations, and take part in hands-on art activities.
