DETAILS:
Founded in 1899, Anti-Cruelty is Chicago’s oldest and largest private Open Door animal welfare organization. For over 125 years, Anti-Cruelty has worked at the intersection of animal welfare and social well-being to provide care for animals, people, and communities. The main adoption center, completed in 1979, was designed by Stanley Tigerman with a facade that represents the face of a basset hound. The Art Deco facade on Grand Avenue dates to 1936.
VISITOR EXPERIENCE:
The lobby and adoption floors are open for visitors to enjoy a self-guided tour of the signature architectural elements. Visitors are welcome to spend time with the animals while onsite, or participate in the Reading Buddies program, where guests help pets relax by reading a provided book to them. Adoptions are also available!
