Avondale

Avondale is a diverse working-class area on the Northwest Side characterized by a low-rise housing stock of two-flats, bungalows and workers cottages. Primary commercial corridors along Milwaukee, Elston and Belmont Aves feature a mix of retail and light-industrial uses. Long known as an immigrant—and especially Polish—neighborhood, in recent years Avondale has welcomed new bars, restaurants, business startups and infill residential construction - a byproduct of rapid development in Logan Square, immediately to the south.
